Visit of German Exchange Pupils to Colton Hills and Colton Hills Pupils to Germany
In May 2008 a group of 20 pupils and two teachers from our exchange partner school in Germany came to visit us on the first leg of our annual exchange. Our German partner school is in Helpsen, near Hannover, in Northern Germany. Pupils taking part in the exchange are 15 years old.
On the first day, the German pupils met their English partners and went to lessons with them. In the evening we all went bowling. On the second day the German pupils, with their English partners, went on a trip to Birmingham, where we showed them the sights and did some shopping. A highlight for the German pupils was a visit to London on the following day, where we showed them all the great sights.
On the second to last day, the German pupils spent the day in lessons with their English friends and in the evening we played sports and had a party with Indian food. On the final day, before returning home, we took the German pupils and their teachers to the Black Country Museum. They were really interested in the industrial heritage of the region. They loved the British Fish and Chips, and the trip down the mine.
A highlight for the German pupils was a visit to London, where we showed them all the great sights.
The Colton Hills pupils really enjoyed meeting the German pupils and friendships were made, which still continue. We look forward to the exchange continuing in future years.
Return Visit to Germany
In September a small group of Colton Hills pupils returned to Germany to visit their exchange partners. We were made to feel very welcome by the German families and they really looked after us well. We visited school with our German friends (their school starts at 7.30 am!) and went on excursions. This year we went to Wolfsburg and visited the VW factory. We visited Hamlin and Hannover. We went bowling. Everyone at school was very friendly and enjoyed having us over.
